THE FRIENDS OF ALCOSSEBRE - CHARITY SHOP

“Supporting our Community”

REPORT NO 11                                                                                                                       JANUARY/MAY 2009

The Charity Shop has now been operating for almost three years, with the support of the volunteers and donors.  We were able to generate in 2008 17000€ of donations to local organisations, a really great achievement, thank you.

During 2008 and spring 2009 we have been going through the long process of obtaining Spanish Association Status giving us a legal basis in Spain for our activities, we now have this and our registered No. is CV-01-0449092-CS and our NIF No. is G12817433.  This gives us the opportunity to apply for Charity Status if we wish, which would enable us to release our 5000€ held in reserve for IVA, but it appears to be yet another long process.

Association Status means that we have a Spanish Constitution enabling us to have a “business bank account” and with Grupo Albert’s approval transfer the shop lease to The Friends of Alcossebre when our rent review is due in July 2009.

Our Constitution covers all the things you would expect about financial transparency, democratic election of committee members who serve for a two year term, the number of meetings held per year etc., etc.  If you would like to be a volunteer or stand for the committee please contact Val Howden our Secretary on Tel: 964 41 22 91

Our first AGM under this Constitution will be held on Saturday 6th June at 13.00 hours at the ABC Bowling Club including a BBQ and a game of bowls.  The AGM itself is open to all at no charge but for non volunteers a 10€ charge will be made for the BBQ and bowling.

Qtr. 1 2009 produced lower sales than last year due, we believe to the recession and the number of people who were away.  However we made donations of 3500€ including 750€ to The Friends/aecc breast cancer charity walk as well as other donations to:

Alcossebre & Alcala Pensionistas; Catholic and Anglican Churches; Club Deportivo Junior Football Team; Alcossebre Red Cross and of course aecc.

We also organised a Dinner & Dance at El Nautico on Friday 24 April – a complete sell out -which raised almost 500€, as well as organising the aecc walk on 3 May.  Many thanks went to Marco, aecc and The Friends committee for their support.

The Charity Shop is being run by the Alcossebre Pensionistas two mornings per week for the summer, and at the AGM we plan to discuss with volunteers whether we could open on Saturday mornings for the summer.

Again thank you to our volunteers and donors without whom we have nothing and our benefactor Grupo Albert for our subsidised shop rent and Euro Horizon for our key holding.
