Special Service for "Ascension"

May 15th, 2009: the Official Opening of 'Portico'. The official opening of the new drop-in and service Centre - the Portico - in Vinarós. At 4 p.m. after the minimum of speeches, Fr Cristobal, the Roman Catholic priest in Vinarós, performed the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. Cava and refreshments were served to the onlookers, who had come from Tortosa, Miravet, L'Ametlla, Vinarós, Peñiscola and Alcossebre. A great afternoon was enjoyed by all.

A new altar for our new service centre - "Portico".

Michael, Chairman of the Vinarós Committee, proudly displays the logo and poster.

As well as a centre for chatting and fellowship, this is truly a centre for church services.

The audience of some fifty people from far and wide, listen to Rev. Paul explaining how the centre came about....

...and Fr Cristobal, the local R.C. priest, performs the final task of 'cutting the ribbon'.

After prayers in Castilian and English, Rev Paul and Fr Cristobal toast the success of the new Centre.

The official opening completed, the attending guests enjoyed refreshments kindly provided by the ladies.

There were so many in the Portico, and the atmosphere so relaxed, that the fellowship continued for over an hour.

Brian from L'Ametlla de Mar, who gave freely of his expertise and time, and presented the Centre with its new altar.

April 23rd 2009: St George's Day celebration in Porky's:  a great evening of fun, food and hilarity. Over 300€ was raised towards costs of the new 'Portico' Vinarós church centre. During Ray's performance of "Old MacDonald" the waitress was unable to control herself with laughter. A wonderful evening.

A visit from St George himself!

Appearance of some very strange guests.

On 28th March 2009, the coming Easter was celebrated with an "Easter Bonnets" parade in the home of Ann & Arnold Warburton: apart from being a hilarious afternoon, a total of 320€ was raised for church funds. Photos courtesy of "Harry".
On 1st February 2009, we held a happy fund-raising lunch in El Cordero d'Oro in Alcossebre - a beef stew event, everything most generously donated by proprietors Ralf and Christiana. Even the waitress said she wanted to forego her wages - what a wonderful offering! Over 800€ was raised for church funds.

April 2009: Members of the Alcossebre Choir joined forces with choirs from the Swindon area, to present "The Crucifixion" in Alcala Church, then in Alcossebre church which was full to overflowing, and people were standing three deep outside the church doors, listening to Stainer's wonderful choral work.

September 2008: Harvest Service and Supper, L'Ampolla and Vinarós.

The pretty little church in L'Ampolla was the venue for the service on Friday 26th September 2008

...just what was the Vicar up to? Preparing to pull rabbits out of hats I think....

The choir gave some great renderings of well-known songs and spirituals.

Sunday 28th September 2008, saw a special service in Vinarós, followed by a Harvest Supper superbly organised by Jenny and Dave May, when 24 sat down to supper in their home.

The harvest theme in the Vinarós chapel, with baskets of almonds, pomegranates, olives and plums....

Michael, our one-piece brass band.

...the Harvest Supper in Vinarós in Dave and Jenny's home...

...was enjoyed by 24 guests who celebrated in grand style while...

Jenny and Dave worked tirelessly in the kitchen!

Thanks to their efforts, 120€ was raised for 'Help the Aged' in Africa.
